What is SoundScan? |

| SoundScan is a tracking system operated by the Luminate. According to their website, "Luminate SoundScan is an information system that tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. Sales data from point-of-sale cash registers is collected weekly from over 14,000 retail, mass merchant and non-traditional (on-line stores, venues, etc.) outlets. Weekly data is compiled and made available every Wednesday. Luminate SoundScan is the sales source for the Billboard music charts." | |

Why would I want to participate? |
|
| In order to have a chance at making the Billboard music charts, your release must be registered with SoundScan using your UPC number (for the whole album) and ISRC codes (for the individual tracks). If you do not register then your sales figures are not counted, and you remain invisible to the system. | |

Is there a cost to participate in SoundScan? |

What is required to sign up with SoundScan? |
|
| Signing up with SoundScan requires that your release has an official UPC number. The UPC number consists of the 12 digits listed below the UPC barcode used to identify your release. Single Tracks may also be tracked via SoundScan. This requires that you get an ISRC code (International Standard Recording Code) for each track that you are selling individually. (Please note that you will still need a UPC code, even if you are just registering tracks. UPC is a required field on the SoundScan track registration form.) |

To register your entire album (once for your physical CD and once more for your digital album download) complete the U.S. & Canada SoundScan Album registration form. To register any tracks that you're selling individually for download, complete the U.S. & Canada SoundScan Single Track registration form. |
